Professional Experience
Fairlie has over 30 years experience working with not for profit and social justice organisations. From small community agencies to international organisations, she has maintained her interest in the multiple threads of social justice and the ways these are intimately connected. Fairlie has worked with newly arrived communities, Aboriginal communities, Elders, community leaders, and young people (the leaders of tomorrow). She has worked extensively with young people, families and communities who have experienced substantial trauma and injustice. Having held multiple Senior Leadership roles, steering organisational re-structures and substantial periods of growth. Organisations include: Australian Red Cross, MacKillop Family Services, Berry Street, VACCA, TasCOSS, Colony 47, Deakin University and the Centre for Multicultural Youth. Fairlie has experience in all aspects of organisational governance, practice and program design.
Academic Background
Fairlie has an undergraduate BA with First Class Honours. Her thesis explored the intersection of North-South Feminism and Development Communication. She has a Masters in Peace Studies focussing on Action Research with young people involved in peace movements, and Reconciliation in particular, and has partly completed a PhD (with scholarship) exploring Transnational Theory and Cosmopolitan Experience of Newly Arrived Sudanese Young People. Fairlie has also completed additional studies in Narrative Therapy, Solutions-Focussed tools, Therapeutic Life Story Work and has been trained by both The Sanctuary Institute and Jasper Mountain.
Skills and Knowledge
Fairlie has a particular passion for values-based leadership and authentic leadership approaches. She has well-developed and strong practice skills, particularly in trauma-competent approaches, and creating a therapeutic milieu. She also has skills in the emerging field of nature-based therapy. Fairlie has knowledge of good practice in child safety, policy development and strong writing skills. She has skills in program design, including and in particular using co-design techniques and extensive experience delivering training. Fairlie has a passion and drive to connect small scale and sensitive community work to global efforts to create a better world for all.
